2000 Portsmouth New Hampshire
MS Newsletter Issue No. 102
Recently, our 10th Reunion was held in Portsmouth,
New Hampshire on a glorious mid October weekend. There were 93 attendees, a
record turnout. But, more than the large number, the Society experienced a new
energy to participate in family research through hands-on work with our research
Shepherds or by telling special stories that we all have about our ancestors.
There was an enthusiasm, a passion that I rarely find in most association
meetings I attend. I urge all members to attend our next reunion in Newburyport,
MA mid October 2002. We are already busy planning a significantly expanded
weekend of meetings, tours, and fun.
The Morse Society Reunion in October was the largest ever held. Activities
were greatly expanded to include one-on-one family research sessions. But, some
of the greatest excitement was related to people actually meeting cousins at the
Reunion without previously knowing that these cousins existed. The Shepherd's
research activities greatly facilitated making these new connections. Other
special parts of the reunion were presentations made by Society officers and
line Shepherds, updating members on the state of the Society (in very good
health, thank you with 692 members) and various research projects. Some of the
speakers told stories about their genealogy journeys and how proud they were to
be members of such a distinguished clan.
