2002 Newburyport, Massachusetts
MS Newsletter No. 109
Our 10th reunion was held in Newburyport, MA the weekend of
October 18-20 and was the largest ever. Around 100 attended and enjoyed
presentations, courses, tours and several fine meals, including a home-cooked
lobster extravaganza by the ladies of the Old South Presbyterian Church. But
more than the numbers was the upbeat spirit and excitement about the Society and
the many new initiatives that we are working on.
The reunion was a big success, with members coming from 20 states and
Canada to meet their cousins. These hearty souls didn't let a sluggish economy
deter them from making the trek to Newburyport MA and visiting all the local
attractions. The quaint shops were delightful, and the local food delicious (the
New England lobster industry may well recognize the heroic efforts of
Stafford-Ames Morse to single-handedly revitalize their sector of the economy!).
Newburyport Mayor Alan P. Lavender proclaimed Saturday "Morse Society Day"
in honor of our Morse ancestors who were among the first settlers of the town.
He provided a lovely commemorative proclamation.
A special thank you to Dick Caldarone, Jerry Mathis, Dick and Carol Morse,
Mary Reevy, Malia Rigler, Noel Murdough and the Research Team. We could not have
done it without all of your help.
We got a lot of great feedback, which we will incorporate into plans for
our 2004 reunion. This event will be in Portland ME on Oct. 15, 16 and 17 of
2004.
